Convenience Store Burglary Solved

LIBERTY, September 8, 2010 - On the morning of Saturday, September 4th, at 2:00 a.m., the Liberty Police Department received a report of a burglary at the Miller’s Shell Food Mart in the 1300 block of U.S.90.

When responding Officer Cedric McDuffie arrived on the scene, it was apparent that a forced entry had been made though the front door of the business. Officer McDuffie’s further investigation determined that the store’s start-up cash and packages of cigarettes had been stolen.

A potential suspect was identified early on in the investigation. Detective Chip Fairchild was called out to assist with the investigation. Later on Saturday morning, investigators felt their leads had generated enough probable cause for a warrant. Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader issued a warrant for the arrest of Andrew Hand, 20, of Liberty. His address was listed as the Inn at Liberty Motel, which is directly across the highway from the Miller’s Shell Food Mart.

Detective Fairchild stated, “It was a combination of scene evidence, in-store video, and suspect statements that ultimately led to Andrew Hand’s arrest.”

Andrew Hand was arrested and transported to the Liberty County Jail without incident. He was booked-in for the offense of Burglary of a Building, a State Jail Felony. He is still being held at the jail, under a $10,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace Joe McAnaly.
