Collision on CR 2212

TARKINGTON, July 2, 2010 -Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Tarkington firefighters and City of Cleveland EMS were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident on CR2212.

The first units arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved in a head-on collision. The occupants of one of the vehicles, a green Honda Civic, had sustained very serious injuries. Due to the stormy weather, no medical helicopters were available, so all four occupants, ranging in age from 17 down to 5, were taken by ground ambulance to Hermann Memorial in downtown Houston.

With so many critical patients, City of Cleveland EMS was forced to use all of their ambulances, including the reserve ambulance, as well as assistance from Liberty County EMS. A total of four ambulances were dispatched to the call.

According to sources on scene, the severity of the injuries was possibly due to a lack of seat belt use by the occupants. Those same sources said it appeared that none of the occupants of the Civic were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. The occupants of the other vehicle, which sustained approximately the same damage, received only minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
