Major Crash on FM 160

RAYWOOD, July 16, 2010 - The City of Liberty and Hull Daisetta Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a major accident on FM 160 just north of FM 1909 around 8:50 AM on Friday.

According to DPS Trooper Chris Cash, a white sedan traveling north on FM 160 with a mother and 11-month-old baby were in the car when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle.

Partially through the passing maneuver the driver slammed on the brakes and attempted to get back into the northbound lane. The vehicle went out of control, rolled over on its’ side and crashed into a utility pole.

The roof of the vehicle collapsed when it impacted the pole.

Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and with the help of firefighters who performed a length extraction cared for the driver, Kacy Denise Gradney age 25 of Raywood, and her baby until Life Flight landed on FM 1909 and transported them both to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment.

According to Trooper Cash the baby was secured in a safety seat and the driver was wearing a seat belt. Both helped minimize injuries.

FM 160 was closed in both directions for over an hour and a half during the investigation and clean up of this accident.

Any citations in this accident will be determined during the ongoing investigation into the cause of this accident.
