Georgia Pacific Plywood Plant Closing

CLEVELAND, June 29, 2010 - Melodie Ruse, a spokesperson for Georgia Pacific, told i-dineout.com today that the Georgia Pacific Plywood Plant near Cleveland would close indefinitely due to market conditions and the lack of demand for their product.

This lay off, that occurred yesterday, affected about 320 full time employees at the plant. Those employees will receive 60 days pay as severance.

This closing does no effect the Georgia Pacific Stud Plant near the same location. About 50 employees work at the Stud Plant.

According to Ruse, “Housing starts are at the lowest level in 50 years and plywood is used in residential construction.”
