Fatal Accident on FM 1960 in Dayton DAYTON, November 30, 2010 - Just before 5:00 PM on Tuesday a major accident occurred on FM 1960 near CR 612 near the approach to the railroad crossing that took the life of an Humble man.
According to Trooper Godfrey who investigated the accident there was one witness to the crash. A silver Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound attempting to pass in a no passing zone. A Chevy stake bed pickup was traveling westbound meeting the Toyota and took evasive action onto the shoulder. For some reason the Toyota continued to the left and the vehicles crashed head on.
The driver of the Toyota, who died in the accident, was identified as Tony Dean Steadman age 20 of Humble, TX. Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader conducted and inquest pronouncing Steadman dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy at the Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office in Beaumont.
The driver of the Chevy pickup was Carl Wayne Johnson age 62 of New Caney and his passenger was Jeffery Wayne Rhoads age 28 also of New Caney. Life Flight transported both Johnson and Rhoads from the scene to Hermann Hospital for treatment. The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department responded to manage traffic control and assist with the rescue of the accident victims. FM 1960 was closed for more than two hours during the investigation and clean up this accident.
