Tarkington Firefighters Participate in FAST Training

LIBERTY, August 16, 2010 - Over the weekend, three Tarkington firefighters, along with firefighters from Irving, Magnolia, and Tarpley, participated in Flood and Swiftwater Technician (FAST) rescue training in New Braunfels.

Assistant Chief Dalton Lee Gregory, Captain Brandie Shirley, and firefighter Lowell Karm spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday learning various techniques critical to rescuing someone in either flood or swift-moving water.

The highlight of the training was the night operations on Saturday night, where firefighters were subjected to the rescue conditions at night, the time when most calls occur.

The training is held in New Braunfels to take advantage of the swift-moving current available on the Comal and Guadalupe rivers while maintaining an element of safety.
