Update on Clayton Evans

LIBERTY, June 14, 2010 -Clayton Evans, the 22-year old Cypress Lakes Volunteer firefighter that was injured on May 10th, has been released from the hospital and is at home. Evans was responding in Cypress Lakes VFD’s Tanker 821 to assist Tarkington VFD with a barn fire when the accident occurred.

Evans sustained multiple injuries, including fractured vertebrae, a broken leg, and a broken hip. He is expected to make a full recovery, but this will take approximately six months.

Evans was married with a two-year old daughter and another child on the way. Neither he nor CLVFD had insurance to cover either his medical bills or his time off from work. As such, the Liberty County Fire Fighter’s Association has declared June 19th to be “Clayton Evans’ Day” and every fire department in Liberty County will be hosting some type of fundraiser on that day to benefit Evans.

In addition, Evans was employed at Liberty Lakes Resort, which will be hosting a free concert on July 4th from 5PM to 9PM featuring the Buck Yeager Band. There will be a barbecue benefitting Evans during that time.

Please make sure to stop by one or both of these fundraisers and donate to help this young man and his family.
