More Problems Discovered at Beaumont Ave. Substation

LIBERTY, December 9, 2010 – Since the numerous power outages of Black Friday in Liberty, more problems with the transformer at the Beaumont Ave substation have been discovered, according to City Manager Gary Broz.

According to Broz, there are two large transformers at the substation and a total of six electrical feeders powering different parts of the city. Usually each of the transformers operate three feeders each.

Since Black Friday, several other problems, previously unknown, with the transformer that failed have been discovered including the presence of water inside the transformer.

According to Broz the City of Liberty does not own the electrical substation or the transformers. They are owned by the SRMPA and their engineers are investigating the issues.

Currently all six of the feeders are being operated by the one remaining large trasformer and there is no backup in the event that it should experience difficulties. Should it fail the possibility exists that the entire city would be without power for an extended period of time.

Repairs are being made to the failed transformer as quickly as possible to restore the substation to normal operations. City Manager Broz stated that he did not know how long it would take to make the necessary repairs.
