More on City of Liberty Electric Bills LIBERTY, June 30, 2010 – Like many of you when i-dineout.com ran our previous story concerning the elderly being assessed a fee by the City of Liberty for utility deposits, many learned some things. One of the things many learned was the according to City Ordinance, the elderly and disabled are exempt for late charges on their utility bills. However, since our story was published, we’ve learned that some elderly residents have been being assessed late fees and have been paying them when they paid there bill after the due date. If you are over 65 years old, you must go to City Hall with a driver’s license or identification card indicting your birth date and let City Administrators know that you are over the age of 65 so that you will not be assessed late fees on your utility bill. The city in some cases has not been in compliance with it’s own City Ordinances. It is interesting to note, that this entire Crack Down on Utility Bills came about just after the City Elections in May, when all the incumbents were reflected. i-dineout.com asked this question to City Manager, Gary Broz who insisted there was no connection between the two and stated, "i just don't work that way."
