Friday Afternoon Accident on North Main LIBERTY, April 30, 2010 - Friday afternoon shortly after 4:00 PM as traffic on North Main Street started backing up at the traffic light at Jefferson Drive a two-vehicle accident occurred in the northbound lane of North Main in front of the Subway Sandwich Shop.
According to Officer J. M. Ewing of the City of Liberty Police Department a Chrysler Sebring, driven by Patricia Ann Duke age 59 of Liberty, was slowing down for stopped traffic in front of her when a Ford Ranger Pickup, driven by Travis Bennett age 19 of Hardin rear-ended the Chrysler. Officer Birdwell stated that the driver of the Ford Ranger was distracted and failed to notice the traffic stopping in front of him.
Traffic on North Main was reduced to a single lane alternating north and southbound during the investigation and clean of the accident.
City of Liberty EMS responded to the scene but luckily no one had to be transported to the hospital. City of Liberty Fire Department washed down the roadway and managed fluid spills from the Ford Ranger on the highway. Both vehicles were insured. Travis Bennett was issued a citation for Failure to Control Speed.
