Accident on the Bypass at Wal-Mart

LIBERTY, March 31, 2010 - It was shortly before 11:30 AM on Wednesday when a two-vehicle accident occurred on the SH 146 Bypass in Liberty at the south entrance to the Wal-Mart Super Center.

According to Officer Wakefield with the City of Liberty Police Department a Dodge Caliber traveling north on the Bypass was struck in the rear by a Dodge Pickup.

The Caliber went into a spin, was struck a second time by the pickup. The pickup then left the roadway to the left running through the ditch and crashing into the wooded area in front of the Wal-Mart Store.

The driver of the Dodge Pickup was Joseph Domain age 32 of Liberty.

The driver of the Dodge Caliber was Betty Vestal age 71 of Liberty.

City of Liberty EMS responded to the scene transporting Vestal to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty with minor injuries.

Joseph Domain performed poorly on a field sobriety test conducted at the scene. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and transported to the Liberty County Jail. Domain also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest on other charges.

UPDATE 4:01 PM Wednesday: After investigation by Officer Josh Cummins of the City of Liberty Police Department charges against Joseph Domain were escalated from simple DWI to Intoxication Assault with a Motor Vehicle, a 3rd Degree Felony. Domain refused to give a blood specimen and District Judge Chap Cain signed a Blood Search Warrant authorizing a sample to be taken. The outstanding arrest warrants for Domain were a Parole Violation Warrant, called a Blue Warrant and a warrant out of Liberty Police Department for Tampering with a Drug Test Result.
