Dayton School Bus Rear Ends SUV on FM 1960

DAYTON, May 19, 2010 - A Dayton school bus slammed into the rear of a late model Ford Expedition on FM 1960 while transporting elementary school children to school this morning around 7:20 AM. The accident occurred on FM 1960 at Waco Street in Dayton.

According to Dayton Police Officer Elmer Clark, there were 54 students on the bus and according to Dayton ISD Officials only three were transported to area hospitals suffering from minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford Expedition, identified as Magana Alicia age 27 of Dayton, and her passengers, consisting of three children were also transported to the hospital to determine if treatment would be required for what appeared to be minor injuries.

According to Officer Clark, the Ford Expedition traveling east was attempting a left turn to go north of Waco Street when it was struck in the rear by the bus, also traveling eastbound on FM 1960.

The driver of the school bus was identified as Tanya Smith age 46 of Dayton.

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department as well as Liberty County Constable Pct. 4 assisted in managing traffic control in the area during the clean up of the accident.

The roadway was closed intermittently as a result of the collision until the roadway could be cleared.
