Chambers Guest Speaker at DRT Meeting

LIBERTY, March 11, 2010 - The Franklin Hardin Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas met Saturday, March 6th in the upstairs meeting room of the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. Local historian and Assistant County Attorney, Tommy Chambers presented a program on the Champ d’Asile.

Mr. Chambers held chapter members’ attention by developing a historical timeline of events in history that led to the settlement by the French near present-day Liberty, Texas and what historians know as Champ d’Asile.

A short business meeting was also held with the main discussion centering on the scholarship to be presented to a graduating, college bound high school student in May. The scholarship will be in the amount of $2500.00 and information and application forms are being distributed to high schools in the county.
