The 24-year-old man, who has been identified as Fausto Cardenas, had fired a small-caliber handgun. No one was injured in the incident. Cardenas was immediately taken into custody by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers. He was transported to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. DPS investigators located a vehicle believed linked to the suspect on the west side of the Capitol Thursday afternoon. The Texas Rangers are conducting the criminal investigation. No motive in the shooting has been established at this time, but it is believed that Cardenas acted alone. He faces charges of deadly conduct, a third degree felony.
