2 Killed in Major Accident on FM 1008 DAYTON, September 24, 2010 - A major accident that claimed the lives of two Dayton young women occurred on FM 1008 at the bridge over Bowie Creek just north of Daniel Park.
According to Corporal Willoughby of the Department of Public Safety, a 1998 Mercury Sable was traveling south on FM 1008 towards Dayton when it losted control in a sweeping right curve approaching the bridge and went into a sideways skid colliding with a northbound Chevy pickup.
The driver of the Mercury Sable, Rebecca Hurta age 20 of Dayton and her passenger Delana Duncan age 18 of Dayton were pronounced dead at the scene of the injuries they sustained in the accident.
The identity of the driver of the Chevy pickup was not released as his condition is not known at this time. He was transported from the scene by Liberty County EMS to a landing zone in Dayton and transferred to the care of Life Fight who flew him to Houston for treatment.
According to Corporal Willoughby the wet road and poor weather conditions are the only factors that contributed to the accident that his investigation has revealed thus far. |
