Like a Bad Penny, Copper Thieves Keep Showing Up

CLEVELAND, June 30, 2010 - On Wednesday, June 23, 2010 around 3:06 a.m. what began as a reported vehicle crash resulted in the arrest of copper thieves. Sergeant David Edwards and Officer Spencer Templeton with the Cleveland Police Department were dispatched to Cleveland Regional Medical Center Emergency Room reference to a male subject with a severe laceration to his left hand.

Upon arrival at the emergency room officers spoke with the subject who was identified as Michael Davis, age 39, of New Caney, Texas. Davis was accompanied by three other subjects. According to Davis he suffered the cut to his hand in an auto accident. Davis gave officers the location of where the alleged accident occurred, but officers were unable to locate any evidence of an accident.

Sergeant Edwards became suspicious of Davis because he told several conflicting stories and tried to hoodwink officers into believing that the car that was involved in the accident had been taken home in New Caney by his wife. Due to good old fashion police work the car was located in the emergency room parking lot and in the trunk of the vehicle, officers found a large bundle of copper wiring. But what officers found inside the vehicle turned out to be the biggest surprise. A w/m juvenile who was the alleged master mind of this bungled burglary.

Since the suspects lived in the Montgomery County area, contact was made with the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Department who advised they were currently investigating a burglary at the “Cavco” mobile home sales in Porter where copper wiring had been stolen. Also, a large knife and immense amounts blood was found at the scene. The copper crooks were detained by CPD until a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy could meet with CPD officers.

Three males and one female were released to the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Department and transported to the East Montgomery County Annex.

All the deviants were charged with:

And possibly be charged with Criminal Conspiracy.
