CASA Golf Outing Promotes Child Advocacy

ANAHUAC, June 22, 2010 - On Saturday, June 19, CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties (CASA) hosted a golf tournament at Chambers County Golf Course to raise awareness for these children and challenge the community to give them a voice as volunteer advocates.

Over 150 businesses and individuals came together in support of CASA’s efforts to recruit and train citizen volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in state care. Ryan Reynolds, of Ryan Reynolds State Farm stated, “I am in the business of helping people recover from the unexpected and realize their dreams. Without organizations like CASA, children in poor living situations would have no representation. CASA helps children recover from bad situations, their “unexpected “, and helps them to get on their feet, enabling them to realize and achieve their dreams.

State Representative John Otto expressed, “Congratulations to CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties on their successful golf tournament, and thanks to all who participated. Whether you played in or sponsored this event, I believe the “local” involvement, in partnership with the State, is what makes CASA so effective in helping children.”

In 2009 alone, the Liberty and Chambers Counties foster care system served close to 300 abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers have been proven to lessen the frequent upheaval that negatively impacts foster children’s education, friendships and sense of belonging. Children with a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care or re-enter the system once placed in a permanent home.
