Pipeline Safety in Liberty County

LIBERTY, November 16, 2010 - Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch advised i-dineout.com of one of his concerns as hunting season gets into full swing.

Hunting season is upon us and it is important to remind hunters that there are a number of pipelines located throughout Liberty County. These pipelines carry many different types of products such as natural gas, propane, crude oil, etc.

There are many locations along the pipeline route where emergency valves and maintenance facilities are placed above ground. There have been reports in the past of people shooting weapons at these facilities and it is important to know that not only can you be arrested for such activity, you could also cause a devastating fire or explosion. A company with a facility located in the FM 1409 area recently reported shots had been fired into an above ground facility located along a hydrogen pipeline. Very dangerous move !!!

Pipeline representatives and emergency responders ask that you please use caution when firing weapons anywhere near these facilities and if you have information on anyone that causes damage to a facility, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
