Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club Holds Meeting LIBERTY, October 1, 2010 - The October meeting of the LOWER TRINITY VALLEY BIRD CLUB will be held on, Saturday, Oct 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the meeting room of the First Liberty National Bank located at 1900 Sam Houston in Liberty. From Hwy. 90 turn on Travis Street, between Kentucky Fried Chicken and Whataburger, cross over the railroad tracks and take a right into the bank parking lot. The speaker for October is Laurie Lomas, biologist at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge. Laurie participated this summer and fall in the BP Oil spill recovery project and her presentation is titled: Clean-up, reconnaissance, recovery, and resilience. Laurie Lomas been the Wildlife Biologist at Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge for five years but she is native to the Rio Grande Valley. Laurie attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville where she received her bachelor's degrees in Animal Science and in Biology. She received her master's degree from New Mexico State University at Las Cruces in Wildlife Science. However, she feels the greatest education she received has been working at Trinity River Refuge, where she feels she could have received her Ph.D. for all that she has learned! Laurie recently assisted with the oil spill recovery in Louisiana and will speak about what she learned about the wildlife, the people, and what goes into cleaning up a massive oil spill.
