House Fire in Hardin HARDIN, September 15, 2010 - Several area fire departments were pressed into service on Wednesday afternoon to fight a house fire on CR 2085, off FM 1011 just south of FM 834.
The Hardin Volunteer Fire Department was closest to the fire and first to respond shortly after the fire was reported at 3:05 PM.
The sister and sister-in-law of the homeowners, Molly Parker lived next door and reported the fire to authorities when she went outside and noticed the house burning.
The homeowners have three boys and no pets. There was no one at home at the time of the fire and its’ cause is not yet known.
The home was a double-wide manufactured home and the home owners were in the process of moving out according to firefighters at the scene. Water to fight the blaze was an issue in that the closest hydrant and source of water to the fire’s location is at the intersection of SH 146 and FM 834 near the Happy Chap Convenience Store.
Once you turn onto CR 2085 off FM 1011, the home was located some two miles down a rock and gravel county road in a remote area toward the river on the west side of FM 1011. Upon arrival of Hardin Fire Fighters the home was fully involved in flames from end to end and the roof had already caved in. The fire had to be fought defensively to protect adjacent structures and property until water arrived by mutual aid to fight the fire in the structure. In total, the Hardin, Liberty, Hull-Daisetta, Cypress Lakes and Dayton Fire Departments responded to the fire with much needed tanker trucks to bring water to fight the blaze. The home was completely destroyed by the fire.
