National Wildlife Refuge Work Day in the Butterfly Garden

ANAHUAC, September 21, 2010 - The Friends of Anahuac Refuge (FOAR) are requesting your help! The FOAR established a new program called Volunteer-for-a-Day. Volunteers make a small commitment of ONE DAY and for most projects only last ½ a day, then we stop to enjoy lunch which is provided. It is truly a fun and great way to meet new people with common interests, to spend time in the beautiful outdoors, and to make a difference. These are exciting times because of the opportunities to restore and improve the refuge. You can be a part of it!

The next project is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010, from 9-12pm, to work in the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge Butterfly Garden. The Butterfly Garden received a Take Pride in America Award prior to Hurricane Ike, but the salt water from the tidal surge caused by Hurricane Ike killed most of the plants living in the garden. The Butterfly Garden has since then been replanted but as with every garden it is in need of a little maintenance. Bring gloves, sunscreen, and hat.

All volunteers will be provided with lunch and beverages. Please come show your support for your local community and your local wildlife refuge. Don’t miss out on helping to maintain an area of the refuge where you can see beautiful blooming plants, colorful butterflies, and gorgeous hummingbirds.
