Suspected Burglar Shot at Dayton Home DAYTON, December 24, 2009 - According to Dayton Police Chief Pete Douzat, a shooting occurred at 1606 N. Cleveland in Dayton this morning around 3:57 AM.
Ricky Wells, Sr. age 63 of Dayton arrived at the Police Department and told Officers he needed an ambulance at his house and that someone had tried to break in his house and he had shot them. Officers arrived around 4:00 AM and found a man lying on the ground near the back door of the detached garage. Early this morning the investigation was still ongoing with the Dayton Police Department being assisted by the Texas Rangers and the District Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Well’s home was burglarized only yesterday and early this morning, Well’s noticed a light triggered by a motion sensor come on finding a man attempting to break into his garage. Well’s apparently shot the man with single shot from a 9mm handgun and the man died at the scene. Justice of the Peace Glenn Pruitt conducted in inquest at the scene.
No charges have been filed at this time pending review by a Grand Jury. More details will be forthcoming later today so please stay tuned. |
