Accident on US 90 at Layl Drive

LIBERTY, October 28, 2009 - Rush hour traffic and drizzling rain complicated travel on US 90 near Layl Drive when a two-vehicle accident occurred at 5:06 PM Wednesday.

The accident closed the eastbound lane during the clean up of this accident scene. Two ambulances from the City of Liberty responded to transport the injured to the local hospital.

DPS Trooper Rob Willoughby and DPS Sgt. Davis assisted with traffic control as east and westbound traffic alternated in the westbound lane around the accident.

According to Sgt. Ricky Skarpa of the City of Liberty Police Department a black Chevy HHR was on the eastbound shoulder of US 90 in front of the Farm Bureau Insurance Building when it either attempted to enter the main eastbound lane or make a U Turn. The Grand AM crossed the westbound lanes without hitting another vehicle and ran into the ditch on the north side of the highway. The driver of the Pontiac was immediately transported to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Chevy HHR was identified as Mary Tanner age 62 of Daisetta. She was also transported to the hospital in Liberty. Her passenger was not injured.

At press time the investigation was still in its’ early stages and citations in the accident are a matter of the outcome of the investigation according to Sgt. Skarpa.

According to Sgt. Skarpa all parties were insured and there didn’t appear to be other contributing factors to the accident.
