Major Accident on FM 1409 at CR 459

DAYTON, October 22, 2009 – A glancing head on collision occurred on FM 1409 at CR 459 south of Dayton late Wednesday night involving a white Chevy pickup and a gray Chevy SUV.

According to DPS Trooper Jamie Neault the driver of the pickup was traveling north on FM 1409 and drifted into the southbound lane. The southbound Chevy SUV approached the oncoming pickup and took evasive action to the left in an attempt to avoid the collision.

Both vehicles suffered extreme damage after colliding in the roadway. FM 1409 was closed to traffic in both directions for well over an hour during the investigation and clean up of this accident.

City of Liberty EMS transported both the drivers involving in the accident to a landing zone set up at Brookshire Brothers and manned by the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.

The driver of the pickup, David Ross Kelley age 50 of Shore Acres, TX was turned over to the care of Life Flight and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston suffering from a head injury.

The driver of the Chevy SUV, Jared H. Sparks age 18 of Dayton was transported by ground ambulance to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown with less severe injuries from the landing zone.

At press time this accident remains under investigation by the Department of Public Safety who investigated the accident and any charges or citations are pending the completion of the investigation.
