One Dead, One Wounded in Liberty Shooting

LIBERTY, July 4, 2009 - City of Liberty Police responded to 513 Missouri Street in Liberty for a report of a shooting at the residence.

When Officers arrived there appeared be an Hispanic gathering at the residence and several vehicles were parked in the front yard.

Apparently there had been a BBQ where the guests at the home had consumed alcoholic beverages.

City of Liberty Paramedics located one man that had suffered a gunshot wound to the right side and transported him to the helipad at the fire station intending to fly him to Houston for treatment. The unidentified man died of his injuries at the landing zone.

Some time latter as the investigation proceeded a man at the residence was discovered trying to leave and blood was found on his clothing. When confronted by officers it was discovered that he as well had been shot suffering a wound to the upper, inner thigh. He was transported to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital by ambulance.

Several persons of interest in the investigation were detained at the scene and tested for gun shot residue on their hands.

According to Officer Hugh Bishop, it was also reported that a Silver Dodge Pickup had been seen fleeing the scene after the incident. That pickup is described as a silver Dodge Extended Cab truck with a bed cover. The occupant of the truck was thought to be Alberto Sanchez thought to be in his 20’s or 30’s. He is described as 5’-5” to 5’-7” tall, with a mustache, last seen wearing a white shirt with red and blue sleeves. Sanchez is currently wanted for questioning in the incident.

Little is known about the identities of those at the party due to the fact that witnesses are not cooperating with police.
