Christmas Eve Assault in Liberty

LIBERTY, December 28, 2009 – Liberty Police report that an Aggravated Assault occurred on December 24, 2009 in Liberty.

According to Officer Hugh Bishop of the City of Liberty Police Department a group of fiends had gathered at a residence in the 800 block of Robbie Street in Liberty on Christmas Eve.

At 2:00 AM two people at the party got into an argument and were successfully separated by others at the gathering. At that time one of the individuals involving in the altercation went outside to his vehicle, retrieved a baseball bat and came back striking Juan D. Ruiz age 23 of Liberty in the head.

Ruiz was transported from Robbie Street to the helipad at the Liberty Fire Station suffering sever head trauma and was flown by Life Flight to Houston’s Hermann Hospital.

According to Bishop as of Saturday, Ruiz remains in Hermann Hospital in critical condition due to brain swelling.

At present the identify of the assailant in this incident is not known.
