Liberty County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships Announced

LIBERTY, November 4, 2009 - Liberty County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, Inc. proudly announces the 2009 Annual Scholarship for $1,000.00 to Mary Eaglin of Hull-Dasietta High School, who is now attending Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas. The scholarship was presented on campus by the chairman of The Board of Directors, Dr. Henry L. Dugat, Sr.

In recognition of those outstanding high school students who have attained the highest grade levels throughout all schools in the Liberty County. The MLK Committee recognizes and awards these seniors with scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00. These Exceptionally gifted students are exemplifying the dream of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in striving for academic excellence. They are exemplifying the dream of Dr. King by becoming strong leaders of their respective communities. They are exemplifying the dream of being proud citizens of the United States in their personal dreams and ambitions of successful living. The MLK Committee continues to endorse and assist students in Liberty County who make such a difference in the lives they touch today and into the future.

The Committee takes pride at being able to have given a scholarship to each school in the County, since 2003. Namely, they are Ashley English of Liberty High School, class of 2003, who attended St. Thomas University at Houston. Brittney Edwards of Dayton High School, class of 2004, who attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. Mychal English of Liberty High School, class of 2005, who attended St. Thomas University at Houston. Kendall Johnson of Tarkington High School, class of 2006, who attended Texas A&M University. Marcus Turner of Cleveland High School, class of 2007, who attends the University of Houston. Krystal Scott of Hardin High School, class of 2008, who attends Prairie View A&M University.
