Major Accident on FM 563

LIBERTY, October 2, 2009 - City of Liberty EMS and the City of Liberty Police Department responded to a major accident on FM 563 near the car wash just south of US 90 in Liberty at 6:44 PM on Friday evening.

According to Lt. Skarpa who investigated the accident a black GMC Yukon traveling south when it moved to the right to avoid a slower moving vehicle and was struck in the rear by a red Mack dump truck operated by Johnson’s Trucking Company of Liberty.

The Yukon suffered considerable damage and its 16-year-old driver, who did not have a driver’s license, was transported by City of Liberty ambulance to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown with unknown injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was Dwayne Ray Johnson, Jr. age 24 of Liberty and the driver of the Yukon was Melisa Lopez age 16 of Liberty.

According to Lt. Skarpa at press time any citations are a matter of the continuing investigation into the exact cause of this accident.
