Kevin Ladd Speaks to Franklin Hardin Chapter DRT
LIBERTY, October 8, 2009 - Members of the Franklin Hardin Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas enjoyed local author, Chairman of the Liberty County Historical Commission and Director of the Wallisville Heritage Park, Kevin Ladd, Saturday, October 3rd at their regular meeting.
Mr. Ladd entertained members and guests with a biographical sketch of Harriet Moore Paige Potter Ames during the years of the Republic of Texas. Her home was called “Potter’s Point” where she fought Indians and raised her family and eventually lost this beloved property in one of Texas’ most notorious early lawsuits. Author, Elithe Kirkland wrote a novel based on Mrs. Ames’ life and a diary that she left her granddaughter, titled Love is a Wild Assault.
