Car Crashed into Utility Pole on FM 1409

WESTLAKE, November 16, 2009 - Liberty County EMS responded to a one-vehicle accident on FM 1409 near CR 436 around 11:30 on Sunday night.

A white 1992 Buick Regal traveling south on FM 1409 had left the roadway to the right, crossed the ditch and collided with a utility pole. The force of the collision split the pole to a height of about 20 feet off the ground.

The driver of the Buick was Kelvin Holmes age 36 of Baytown who according to DPS Trooper Boyd Lamb had been at a family gathering and was returning home at the time of the accident.

The 1992 Buick was not equipped with airbags and the driver, according to Trooper Lamb was not wearing a seat belt. The steering wheel of the vehicle was bent. The vehicles registration had expired in January of 2007.

Holmes suffered a broken leg in the accident and was transported to the Helipad at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department where Life Flight landed and transported him to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment.

According to Trooper Lamb alcohol was most likely a contributing factor in the accident.
