Dog Rescued from Drainage Structure

LIBERTY, October 26, 2009 - An incident occurred on Saturday around lunchtime in the City of Liberty that should remind all of us of the danger of high water and drainage ditches that many of us live near.

A concerned citizen spotted a dog that had fallen in “Main A” a concrete lined drainage structure that runs east to west through Liberty and crosses North Travis Street just south of Allison Funeral Home. Main A continues west crossing Milam Street and running behind the Football Stadium toward the Trinity River Bottom.

City of Liberty Police and Firefighters responded to a location on Main A just west of Milam Street Saturday, located the dog and were able to rescue the animal while it clung to a over grown bush in the ditch.

According to Officer Hugh Bishop of the City of Liberty Police Department the dog was exhausted but in good shape after the ordeal. The dog was taken to the City of Liberty Animal Shelter and hopefully will be adopted to a good home.
