| More Problems at the Sheriff’s Office
LIBERTY, December 22, 2009 - Sources told i-dineout.com this morning that a search warrant was served on the home of Captain Harry Kelly in Kingwood of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department by ATF Agents working in conjunction with the US Attorney’s Office yesterday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. ATF Officials did confirm that search warrants had been served yesterday but were not specific as to who was served. We contacted Chief Deputy of the Liberty County Sheriff’s, Jim Cooper, who Captain Kelly reports directly to in the chain of command at the Sheriff’s Office and ask him if he knew of the search warrant and what Captain Kelly’s status was at the department at this time. Cooper said, “I don’t know anything about it but Channel 13 called me about this same thing earlier today.” Since Cooper is Kelly’s direct supervisor and Cooper knew of the allegation you would think Cooper would be attempting to get to the bottom of it to determine what if any action should be taken to protect citiznes and the Department. This is not the case. According to Cooper, he knows nothing about it, other than the fact that the allegation has been made and that he has been questioned about it. According to Public Information Officer Steve Green of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, Captain Kelly is employed at the Department and is working at this time. Sheriff Patterson, Chief Deputy Jim Cooper and Captain Harry Kelly all worked together at the Cleveland Police Department before coming to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Patterson has not returned our calls. i-dineout.com contacted Captain Kelly on his cell phone and ask him if he could comment on the search warrant served on his home yesterday. Kelly replied, "No comment," but did not deny the allegation.
