LCSO Deputy Arrested on Felony Charges

DAYTON, January 26, 2009 – According to LCSO Chief Deputy Ken DeFoor arresting Officer Aaron Venegas of the City of Liberty Police Department observed a late model GMC Pickup speeding through the River Bottom in Liberty early on Sunday morning. The vehicle refused to stop and led Officers on a chase into the City of Dayton.

The vehicle turned left on Colbert Street, then right on Hope Street and was ultimately stopped on FM 1409 near Houston Street assisted by Dayton PD.

DeFoor stated that he first learned of the incident at 4:28 AM on Sunday morning and arrived at the scene a short time latter.

The driver of the vehicle was identified at Deputy Gordon Bean age 34 of the Liberty County Sheriff's Department. Bean's passenger was Amanda Ramsey, a newly hired dispatcher at the Sheriff's Department.

Bean was returning from a birthday party he had attended in Beaumont according to DeFoor.

Officers arrested Bean on charges of DWI First Offense and Fleeing or Evading in a Motor Vehicle a State Jail Felony and transported him to the Liberty County Jail.

While on the scene at this early morning arrest Chief Deputy Defoor stated that he relieved Bean of his duties at the Sheriffs Department pending the out come of the investigation.

DeFoor has assigned the Sheriff's Department's investigation into the incident to Detective Jim Cooper.

Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader magistrated Bean at the Sheriff's Department around 7:00 AM on Sunday morning setting bond at $500 on the misdemeanor charge of DWI and $2500 on the State Jail Felony Charge of Fleeing or Evading in a Motor Vehicle.

Bean is free on Bond.
