Burglary Suspect Killed UPDATE

DAYTON, December 24, 2009 - Early this morning Richard Lee Wells, Sr. of Dayton surprised a burglar at this home attempting to break into his garage and shot the man once killing him at the scene.

Dayton Police have been investigating the incident all day long and have released the following updated information concerning the event.

Detective Doug O’Quinn of the Dayton Police Department identified the actor in the burglar that was killed as Jack A. Jackson age 19 of Baytown who has been living in Dayton in recent weeks.

O’Quinn stated that the department has interviewed another suspect in the case and is currently looking for another one.

Mr. Well’s home was burglarized yesterday and the actors in that burglary used the same door to make entry as Johnson was attempting to use this morning when he was killed.

Dayton Police are looking into the possibility that the people attempting to break into Wells’ home today were the same ones who broke in yesterday and made off with some of Wells’ property.

Justice of the Peace Glenn Pruitt conducted an inquest at the scene this morning and ordered an autopsy be performed at the Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office in Beaumont. That autopsy was conducted today and results are pending.
