Walder in Probable Cause Hearing this Morning

LIBERTY, December 29, 2009 - Tuesday morning Stevie Ray “Bubba” Walder was taken from the Liberty County Jail to the 253rd District Court of Judge Chap Cain in the Liberty County Courthouse for a probable cause hearing.

After the hearing Walder was taken from the Liberty County Courthouse under heavy escort.

Judge Cain told i-dineout.com that Walder was in court this morning for a probable cause docket, to determine if the state had probable cause to hold him and to afford him a right to council.

According to Cain, Walder stated that he was indigent and requested a court appointed attorney.

Judge Cain appointed Ed Lieck of Chambers County as Walder’s attorney. Lieck has represented defendants in Capital cases previously.

It will up to a Grand Jury and Prosecutors whether or not Walder will face the death penalty in his trail for the murder of Naushad Virani, the owner of the Ridgewood Happy Chap Convenience Store on Christmas Day in Liberty.
