Vickery DWI Trial Avoided

LIBERTY, October 29, 2009 - The trial of Glenn Vickery on charges of Driving While Intoxicated was scheduled to begin on Monday.

Today, County Attorney Wes Hinch issued the following statement.

On October 29, 2009, Glen Wheeler Vickery entered a plea of “no contest” to the class “A” misdemeanor charge of Deadly Conduct. Judge Patrice McDonald, a visiting judge, presided over the Liberty County Court at Law.

The case was scheduled for a jury trial on Monday, November 2. On late Wednesday, October 28, 2009, Judge McDonald scheduled the special hearing to ensure that the plea was finalized before cancelling the jury.

Vickery was originally charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a class “B” offense.

In exchange for his plea, Vickery received a 30-day deferral of adjudication and was assessed a $2,000 fine. As a further condition of the plea, Vickery is required to speak to local senior citizens regarding the potential hazards posed to oneself and others by adverse reactions to prescription medications, even while under a doctor’s care.
