AMES, September 24, 2008 - The Liberty and Hull Daisetta Volunteer Fire Departments today responded to a fully involved manufactured home fire in the 600 block of MLK in Ames, TX around 5:00 PM.

Upon arrival information was received by responding departments that the home belonged to Billy Gene Welch age 39 and that he was at home at time of the fire.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Department investigators were familiar with Welch having dealt with him on several occasions for what was described as mental health issues. From time to time as many a 4 to 6 people live in the home and come and go.

Fireman conducted a meticulous search of the manufactured home and found no evidence of anyone inside the home at the time of the fire.

The home was completely destroyed and threatened adjacent structures were saved.
