Man Fleeing a Crime Scene Runs Over Woman

LIBERTY, October 4, 2008 - The City of Liberty Police Department was notified of someone shooting people with a pellet gun on Industrial Road in Liberty at 10:58 PM on Saturday night.

Only minutes latter a second call to the PD notified Police that the suspect, fleeing in a White Chevy Pickup, had ran over a woman, hit another car and a utility pole.

Officers quickly responded to the scene and a Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy notified Officers that the pickup was seen leaving Ridgewood Grocery heading back toward Liberty.

Officers learned the pickup was possibly heading to an address in the 3300 block of Beaumont Ave. and responded to the address to find the pickup parked behind a manufactured home.

According to Officer Frank Longoria of the City of Liberty Police Department, who was first on the scene, the man jumped out of the pickup and ran around the east side of the house where he was confronted by Officer Aaron Venegas.

The man identified as Paul David Tatsch age 26 of Liberty put up a struggle and Officers fought the man to get him into handcuffs. Once in the patrol car the man pulled his pants off, got out of the handcuffs and began kicking the window of the patrol car.

A second struggle with Officers occurred and the man was subdued with pepper spray.

City of Liberty EMS was called for decontamination and quickly arrived on the scene.

City of Liberty EMS also transported the woman who was run over on Industrial Road where this incident first started to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital. She was identified as Elizabeth Dowdell age 46. At the time of this report the extent of her injuries are not known.

The homeowner on Beaumont Ave. told i-dineout.com that Tatsch had came from Dickinson earlier in the evening while consuming Crown Royal and Coke. A half empty bottle of Crown Royal was found in the front seat of the pickup.

According to Officer Longoria Tatsch has an extensive criminal history. The DPS Crime Records Services reports that Tatsch’s Criminal History shows convictions for Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, Theft, Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member and Felony Theft.

Tatsch was transported to the Liberty County Jail charged with Deadly Conduct, Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest.
