Sunday Morning Fire in Liberty LIBERTY, December 7, 2008 – A commercial structure fire was reported at 7:28 AM on Sunday morning in the 1900 Block of North Main in Liberty. The fire was located in a small shopping center and ultimately involved five of the tenant shops in the building. The City of Liberty Fire Department responded to the scene with equipment and considerable manpower to fight this fire.
First arriving firefighters noticed three of the businesses on the north end of the building were fully involved in flames.
The shops affected included a Hispanic Store, the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Daniel Hearing Aid Center, Rogers Cleaners and a Nail Salon.
The smoldering persistent fire generated a lot of smoke and damages to the Rogers Cleaner and the Nail Salon was predominately from smoke. The Hardin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire along with the City of Liberty Fire Department to provide mutual aid to fight this fire. Fire hoses were run from a fire hydrant on the opposite side of North Main Street from the fire’s location closing the street in both directions while firefighters brought this fire under control. The interiors of the stores suffered considerable damage as a result of this Sunday morning fire. Although undetermined at this time the fire seemed to start in the Hispanic Store and then spread to adjacent shops. Fire Fighters Sean Matura of the City of Liberty Fire Department will investigate the fire.
