Recovery Process Measured in Increments

LIBERTY, September 23, 2008 - Progress since Hurricane Ike has been slow and incremental but there are definite signs that things are improving. Trucks hauling off debris could be seen operating throughout Liberty and Utility Trucks were making more repairs to utility lines all over town.

Only a few restaurants were open today in Liberty and some of those had yet to replenish their stockrooms and were operating on limited menus. Others were seen cleaning up and getting ready to open soon.

Property was being cleared of fallen trees and the tops of trees created large piles of debris that had to be removed.

Other business that received damage in Liberty were restoring phone systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems and computer networks to getting running as soon as possible.

The signs of recovery were everywhere you looked in town but much more work is left to be done.
