Hospital District Investigates Purchase of Liberty Dayton Community Hospital

LIBERTY, July 14, 2008 - The Liberty County Hospital District No. 1 met on Monday evening and accepted the resignation of Board Member Janice Guedry who has plans to move out of the county and could no longer serve.

The Hospital District Board will be seeking a replacement to fill Guedry’s unexpired term. This vacany will be filled by appointment of the Board.

After taking care of routine matters the board went into an executive session, then returned to open session and passed two motions.

Kathy Dagle made the motion that, Board Attorney, Barbara Norwood have the ability to hire a specialty attorney to assist her and the Hospital District Board in looking into the possibility of purchasing the Liberty Dayton Community Hospital by the Liberty County Hospital District No. 1.

Board Member Sissy Drake made a motion to hire a consultant to assist the Board in the operation, assuming control and purchase of the Liberty Dayton Community Hospital.

Both motions passed by unanimous vote. Board Member Kaemmerling was not present at the meeting.

Board Member Sissy Drake indicated that the board should continue in negotiations with Liberty County about the possibility of locating a new hospital in the old Wal-Mart Store on North Main Street in Liberty.
