Motorcycle Crashes while Passing

DAYTON, October 4, 2008 - A major accident involving a Honda Motorcycle and a Lincoln Navigator SUV occurred on SH 146 at PR 478 at 6:35 PM on Saturday.

Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and prepared the driver of the Motorcycle identified as Freddy Johnston of Dayton for transport to Hermann Hospital in Houston by Life Flight 2. Johnston suffered serious injuries in the accident.

According to investigating Officer Chris Bergeron of the Dayton Police Department the Lincoln Navigator driven by Steffani Ann Ibarra age 26 of Baytown was traveling north on SH 146 and attempted a left turn onto PR 478 unaware that the Honda Motorcycle was passing to the left when unsafe.

Johnston laid his motorcycle on its side and slid into the left rear quarter panel of the SUV.

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department set up a landing zone for Life Flight on SH 146 closing the highway for about a half hour while Johnston was prepared for transport and loaded into the helicopter.

According to Officer Bergeron, Johnston will receive a citation for Failure to Pass Safely.
