Liberty Firefighter Dies Unexpectedly

LIBERTY, July 14, 2008 - According to Sgt. Investigator Kenny Dagle of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, Sorrell R. Fregia, age 24 of Hardin, was found by his mother lying unconscious on the floor of his garage where he worked on race cars shortly after 11:00 PM on Friday.

Dagle’s investigation revealed that Fregia had spoken to a friend about one hour before he was discovered in the garage.

City of Liberty EMS transported Fregia to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace, Bobby Rader. An autopsy was ordered.

Fregia was a graduate of the Lamar University Fire Academy and was a firefighter and EMT for the City of Liberty Fire Department.

Auto racing was a passion of Fregia and he built and drove race cars.

According to Dagle, preliminary results of the autopsy revealed no positive cause of death and little more will be known until final tests are completed by the Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office in Beaumont.
