Suspicious Car Fire on SH 105

HOUSTON, December 7, 2008 - Shortly after 1:00 on Sunday afternoon, Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on SH105 near CR2254. Assistant Chief Dalton Lee Gregory requested that Cypress Lakes VFD also be dispatched to the fire.

While he was enroute, dispatch advised him that Liberty FD Assistant Chief Brian Hurst, who was returning from investigating a commercial fire in Liberty, was on location and advising that the vehicle was fully-involved and the fire was spreading into nearby brush.

Gregory arrived on the scene soon afterwards, followed by Booster 51, Engine 51, and Cypress Lakes VFD Booster 821. Firefighters then went to work extinguishing both the car and brush fires.

The Toyota Camry had Alabama plates and the driver was nowhere to be found. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputy was requested.

While Tarkington firefighters were on the scene of this fire, they were dispatched to another call, this one a brush fire on FM1008 near CR2317. Assistant Chief Doucette and Booster 51 responded from the scene of the first call to the second.
