| Converting to Digital Television
LIBERTY, September 8, 2008 - Its’ been a rather tiresome experience getting prepared for digital television but today I finally completed it. Yes, I applied and received two discount coupons to purchase the necessary digital converter boxes to keep by two analog televisions receiving there off air signal with an antenna. You may ask why I haven’t just got a new digital TV? There’s an easy answer. I watch very little TV and cannot justify the cost of a new TV when I have two perfectly good analog ones. Why don’t I have cable or satellite TV reception? Largely for the same reason. I just don’t watch enough TV to pay the cost. So, I’ll continue to use the new antenna I had installed after Hurricane Rita destroyed my old one.
I had a lot of concerns about whether my antenna would receive the digital signals, would the digital signals from Houston stations reach all the way out here like the analog signals do and so many more. My experience was a good one after months of delay. I found that my antenna picked up more digital stations than analog stations and the picture quality was better than I was used to. In fact the quality of the picture is better than I’ve seen on any analog set using an antenna. Installing the cable box is not very hard but you will need an audio cable to connect the converter box to your television to receive sound that was not included with the digital converter box. Although the process of converting for me was a long drawn out experience due to the lack of availability of the converter boxes, once I had one installation was pretty painless and the benefits are great.
