County Unit Crashes on FM 1409

WESTLAKE, September 27, 2008 - Late Friday night a police pursuit started on SH 146 south of Dayton and three Liberty County Sheriff’s Department Units were traveling south on FM 1409 near the county line to join the pursuit.

Deputy Jennifer Bowles was behind two other units when she came around the curve at CR 402 near the Quick Mart Convenience Store and lost control of her vehicle.

According to witness Jaime Parker of Dayton, Deputy Bowles went off the roadway, hit a culvert, launched over a private drive and went airborne about 10 feet before coming to rest off the roadway.

DPS Trooper Chad Blackburn investigated the accident and stated that Bowles was traveling at unsafe speed and both back tires were slick which may have contributed to the accident.
