Conditions in Liberty County

LIBERTY, September 13, 2008 – Public Information Officer for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, Hugh Bishop advised at 10:00 AM that the services of the Sheriff Department are up and running.

The City of Liberty Police Department has lost phone service including 911 service. Those calls are currently being transferred to the Sheriff’s Department and the City of Liberty Officers are being dispatched by cell phone. The Police Department radios are out at this time.

The top priority at this time for the Sheriff’s Department is to clear the roads so that emergency vehicles can get to those that need help. It will be a large undertaking.

The only calls received at this time are for trees and power lines down.

According to Bishop looters will be dealt with harshly, with no warnings.

Chambers County Judge Jimmy Silvia has issued a 24 hours curfew. That’s all day long.
