UPDATE from Liberty

LIBERTY, September 13, 2008 - Early this morning i-dineout.com received the following FEEDBACK RELY from Caldwell, TX.

I evacuated to Caldwell Texas. Live in Dayton though. We here on KHOU that it is going to get worse in just a bit for D/L. We pray that the area can stand the wind pressure of the storm. Please note on your site what info you can find out about area and when people can return to their homes.

We will keep you informed and hope to bring you more coverage of our local area after day light Saturday morning.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about our personal experience with this storm thus far.

Having been back in Liberty about 17 years I’ve only ridden out two storms, Rita and now Ike.

Rita was a smaller event and the really high winds lasted for a relatively short time. It’s now 3:24 AM on Saturday and we’ve been experience high winds for hours and its not over yet.

There are also many people to thank. First, the local Sears store who took a delivery of generators in the middle of the night on Friday and made them available to residents and myself of Saturday morning. Second, Channel 13 has provided up to the minute continuous hurricane coverage.

During Rita our television antenna blew down and we replaced it with a much sturdier one. This one has lasted thus far and our off air digital signal has performed very well with only a few short interruptions.

Having only ridden out two storms you really haven’t experienced life until you go out to your patio with only a flashlight and pull start your generator at 2:00 AM in the morning in a blowing wind and rain to keep necessary computers, lighting and other communications equipment going throughout the night.

Our generator that we set up Saturday morning has worked flawlessly powering our televisions, radio, lighting and laptop.

We should also thank AT&T and Verizon Wireless both who have kept their networks working without interruption giving us communications locally and to the outside world from our offices near downtown Liberty.

Stay tuned for more updates from Liberty County.
