Deputy Crashes on FM 563 LIBERTY, December 28, 2008 - Shortly before 2:00 AM on Sunday morning a Liberty County Sheriff’s Department patrol unit crashed on FM 563 about 4.5 miles south of US 90 in Liberty.
According to DPS Trooper Troy Dyson, Deputy Juan Alfaro was responding to a domestic disturbance call while traveling north on FM 563.
The vehicle was traveling in a sweeping left hand turn while Deputy Alfaro was communicating with dispatchers on the radio. According to Dyson, Alfaro dropped the radio microphone and reach down to pick it up. He lost control of the patrol unit leaving he roadway to the left, sideswiping a fence and coming to rest in the ditch on the west side of the roadway. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to check out Deputy Alfaro for any injuries as a result of the accident. The Department of Public Safety investigated the accident.
