Pedestrian Killed on US 90

LIBERTY, December 19, 2008 - US Highway 90 was closed to traffic in both directions for nearly two hours early Friday evening while the Liberty Police Department investigated an auto pedestrian accident near the west end of the Trinity River Bridge.

According to Officer Luis Jennings of the City of Liberty Police Department, Margaret Ann Thain age 35 of Liberty, attempted to cross the road in a unlit area of Highway 90 near the west end of the Trinity River Bridge and was struck by an eastbound, silver, Chrysler mini-van.

The driver and the passenger in the mini-van were not injured. The mini-van had considerable damage to the front left portion of the vehicle.

Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader conducted an inquest at the scene pronouncing Margaret Thain dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy be conducted at the Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office in Beaumont.

The accident was first reported at 5:52 PM.

The investigation is continuing that may explain what factors contributed to the cause of this accident.

This is not the first time Thain had been struck by a vehicle while crossing US 90.
